Track your yacht using Iridium Go

What is Iridium Go?

Idiridum Go is a popular satelite hotspot device that works globally and allows yachts to download weather and e-mail. It's also capable of sending and receiving text messages as well as GPS tracking with a service like Quartermaster.

Quartermaster tracking with Iridium Go

With Quartermaster and Iridium Go, a yacht can have real-time tracking of its location. This is simple to setup from Iridium Go by telling it to send an e-mail (typically every 10 minutes) to tracking@quartermaster.me. In order for Quartermaster to know which account or yacht the tracking data belongs to, you need to setup your iridum phone number in Quartermaster.

Setting up Iridium Go

Turn on your Iridium Go and connect your device to its hotspot. Refer to the Iridium manuals on how to get your Iridium Go setup and connected to your phone or tablet.

  1. Open the "Iridium Go!" app.
  2. Log in using your user name.
  3. Click Settings
  4. Click Track
  5. In the "TRACKING RECIPIENT" field, type in "tracking@quartermaster.me".
  6. Press "Done" on the keyboard, then "Save" in the top right corner.

You've now done all you need to do on the Iridium Go side.

Setting up Quartermaster

Open a browser on a computer or tablet and go to our website https://quartermaster.me.

  1. Log in with your user name, then go to the Tracking tab.
  2. Click the + sign on top of the page and add your Iridium's e-mail address, typically your Iridium phone number @msg.iridium.com, i.e.8816xxxxxxxx@msg.iridum.com.
  3. Save and make sure the entry is added in the list.

If you have a backup Iridium Go, you can add that as well, but you should only have one on at any given time.

To check that tracking works, turn on your Iridium Go. Each 10 minutes, it will emit a sound confirming a tracking message has been sent with a verification on its screen. Wait a few more minutes and your yacht's location should show up on the tracking page in Quartermaster. You can also view it in full screen and even embed it on your site.
